From 30 May to 1 June, the National Festival of Sheep Breeders ‘Livelihoods, Traditions and Folklore of NSOB 2025’ will be held, the largest outdoor spring event in Bulgaria.
The organisers of the fair are the Heritage in the Future Foundation, the National Festival of Sheep Breeders in Bulgaria, the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association, the Dairy Sheep Breeding Association, with the assistance of Lyaskovets Municipality, Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Since 2011, the festival has been organized near the Lyaskovo Monastery, also called the Petropavlovski Monastery.
The three-day event, traditionally, will present the achievements in the industry to the widest possible audience and will shorten the chain of producer-consumer of real, pure Bulgarian farm food. The festival will be saturated with many experiences and emotions for the fans of folklore, folklore and culinary traditions and will offer unforgettable emotions for the whole family. The variety of indigenous, local and rare breeds of sheep and goats raised in Bulgaria will be presented in three large-scale specialized exhibitions on an area of over 1300 square meters. Near the Petropavlovski Monastery there will be an exhibition of agricultural machinery, equipment, feed, specialized literature and medicines for livestock breeding, as well as an information stand of the Ministry of Agriculture. You will be able to see exhibitions of shepherd dogs and work with them, elite horses, donkeys, camels and other rare animals. The three-day exhibition of farm products from sheep and goat milk and meat will be under the motto “Bulgarian Food from Bulgarian Raw Materials”. During the event there will be direct sales areas with quality organic food and drinks, festive qurban, demonstrations of old-fashioned cuisine and old Bulgarian recipes for dairy foods, chevermeta, various culinary zones, exhibition of crafts, folk fun, mummers and bagpipers. More than 3000 amateur performers from all ethnographic regions will take part in the accompanying festival National Folklore Contest “My Lamb’s Slaughter”, which will be held on two stages.
